I was talking to somebody the other day who wanted to “add some process” to what they were doing.
The thing is, I don’t think you can add some process. Processes produce things, the fact that things were being produced showed that he already had a process.
- You can add some checks
- You can add some balances
- You can add some constraints
- You can add some bureaucracy
- You can add some pain and misery
But what I think he really wanted was some of the errors, rework and cost taking away.
And the way you improve your processes is by taking wasteful activity out, not putting process in.
