Notable failures
Even the most successful people have failures:
- James Dyson built 5,127 prototypes before he perfected one vacuum cleaner.
- Mozart wrote over 64 symphonies. How many have you heard?
- Richard Branson has launched over 400 business ventures, remember Virgin Vodka? Nope, nor do I.
- Over 30 years Albert Einstein published ~ 345 scientific papers but his major work all came in 1905.
The secret to success
The best way to land a dozen really good ideas is to generate and implement a hundred bad ones. Or, to put that another way, success comes from failure, not despite it.
Which begs one question
How many bad ideas will your organisation tolerate?

James, I recently used these and a few other examples (including Walt Disney being told he had no creativity or imagination) in a presentation… all great motivation to just keep going, keep trying. Success is around the corner! Imagine if Dyson had stopped at 5,126!

Lovely story, I will remember that next time my boss tells me I have no imagination.
