Strange times
The world has turned upside down. We are staggering from crisis to crisis. The word unprecedented is no longer unprecedented. I might just punch the next person who uses it.
Our plans unravel, we have no idea what the future holds and we don’t have a scooby how it is going to end.
The good news
There are plenty of heroic leaders jockeying for position:
- Leaders with a strong, charismatic style
- Leaders who will control the situation
- Leaders who can solve any problem or challenge
- Leaders who won’t make u-turns
- Leaders who know what is going to happen
- Leaders who are unshakably self-assured
- Leaders who can guide us through the crisis
Heroic leaders who will make bold, decisive decisions (can you make an indecisive decision?)
A plague on your heroes
Anybody who claims they know what is going to happen next is a charlatan.
We don’t need heroes; we need people who realise they can’t see all the angles and can’t solve all the problems. People who demand independent thinking and decision making. People who leverage the strengths of those around them.
We need people who have the good sense to engage as much of our collective intelligence as they can lay their hands on.
If you have a heroic leader
He isn’t heroic and he isn’t a leader. Find yourself somebody who will listen instead.
